Historic Tahquitz Creek Golf Neighborhood Gateway, Palm Springs, CA, 2025
At the entrance to the historic Tahquitz Creek Golf Neighborhood, this once-empty lot has been transformed into a welcoming native landscape honoring the spirit of the surrounding midcentury enclave. Known as “Green Fairway Estates,” this little-known gem was developed in 1964 by George and Robert Alexander and architect Donald Wexler — their final project before the Alexanders’ untimely passing.
This pro bono, community-funded project celebrates the legacy of the neighborhood with a thoughtfully designed dry creek bed that echoes the natural path of Tahquitz Creek. The planting palette features resilient native species like desert milkweed and brittlebush, providing habitat for pollinators while maintaining a low-water, low-maintenance footprint.
The result is a quiet, ecologically sensitive gateway that reflects the area's modernist roots while inviting both neighbors and visitors to slow down and take notice.
