Historic Tahquitz Creek Golf Neighborhood Gateway, Palm Springs, CA, 2025
At the entrance to the historic Tahquitz Creek Golf Neighborhood, a once-empty lot has been transformed into a welcoming native landscape that honors the spirit of this midcentury enclave. Developed in 1964 by George and Robert Alexander with architect Donald Wexler, “Green Fairway Estates” was their final project before the Alexanders’ untimely passing.
This pro bono, community-funded effort celebrates that legacy with a dry creek bed tracing the path of Tahquitz Creek and a palette of resilient desert natives such as milkweed and brittlebush. The design provides habitat for pollinators, conserves water, and requires minimal maintenance.
The result is a quiet, ecologically sensitive gateway that reflects the neighborhood’s modernist roots while inviting both residents and visitors to pause and take notice.
